TRANS DAY OF VISIBILITY IN NORTH LIBERTY

A huge thank you to Mayor Chris Hoffman for proclaiming March 31, 2025, Trans Day of Visibility in North Liberty! And thank you to so many of you who contacted the City Council and the Mayor to show enthusiasm for this proclamation and who showed up to the City Council meeting on March 11 to speak and show support. Your voices were heard!

Thank the Mayor and City Council for their support at council@northlibertyiowa.org.

MORE OPPORTUNITIES TO CELEBRATE TRANS DAY OF VISIBILITY

The image below includes upcoming opportunities to celebrate and participate in Trans Day of Visibility events. Visit Iowafortransfolks.org for more information.

This article from the Iowa City Press-Citizen includes lots of information, too.

SUCCESSFUL BOOK DRIVE

Our book drive to supply our library with even more books focused on diversity, equity, and inclusion - including frequently banned books - was successful!

Group members donated $200 to buy books as well as some already purchased books to be given to the NL Library. If the library already has sufficient copies of the donated books, the extras will be placed in Little Free Libraries across the city.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!

Many hands make light work. Volunteers from within the group are needed for the following:

Write, submit, and/or accept proclamations for

  • Asian American and Pacific Islander Month (May)

  • Pride Month (June)

  • Juneteenth (June 19th)

Let's make sure our city government marks these important observances to help everyone feel welcome and at home in our town.

The process is actually pretty straightforward and easy, and we've put together a handy guide to the process. Check it out here. Just follow the instructions and stay in touch with the group administrators at arsjnorthliberty@gmail.com to make sure proclamations align with our group mission and values.

Note: timing matters! The City asks that proclamations be submitted at least 30 days in advance of the preferred council meeting, and it will take some additional time to coordinate with the group administrators to finalize the language before that. So be sure to think ahead!

Willing to take this on for one of these upcoming observances? Let us know at arsjnorthliberty@gmail.com.

Coordinate group volunteer time at the NL Community Pantry

This is another fairly straightforward and rewarding job. Pick an open volunteer time at the Pantry, coordinate on the Facebook page to get group members signed up, wear your North Liberty and Justice for All shirts, and enjoy a couple hours of supporting an incredible community service. Willing to coordinate? Let us know at arsjnorthliberty@gmail.com.

FINALLY, MARK YOUR CALENDAR FOR OUR NEXT MEETING

6:30 - 7:30 p.m., April 15, 2025

Meeting room C/D, North Liberty Library

RSVP through Facebook (not required)

Everyone is welcome! Just bring your brain and your passion for a just and equitable North Liberty.

See you there!
